Codorus State Park

Create your ideal outdoor adventure year-round at Codorus State Park in Southern York County. With pristine wetlands, rolling hills, a large lake, lush fields and forests, there’s something for everyone at this natural attraction.

Water Fun

The state park revolves around Lake Marburg, where you’ll find endless water fun any season of the year, including winter.

The 1,275- acre lake with 26 miles of shoreline is a popular warm-water fishery, home to various species, from catfish and crappie to largemouth bass and bluegill. Most of the lake is open for ice fishing during the winter months. Anglers who love trout will find cold water fishing in the eastern part of Codorus Creek.

Boating is also a popular pastime at Codorus. Launch your sail or motor boat from one of the seven ramps. You can also rent canoes, kayaks, and pontoons. In the winter, most of the lake is open to ice boating, although you’ll need a permit.

Bring your binoculars because you may catch migrating waterfowl and shorebirds as you journey around the lake. Depending on the season, you may also see ruddy ducks and mergansers and if you are really in luck, you just might spot a majestic bald eagle or two that nest nearby.

To cool off on a hot day, head to the park's seasonal swimming pool and splash pad area. Due to fluctuating water levels, lake swimming is not permitted, however scuba diving is allowed in the Sinsheim Cove area of the lake.

Lakeside Activities

With 19 miles of trails, there’s just as much to see and do on land. The park is home to two designated hiking trails as well as equestrian and mountain biking trails.

The park dedicates 195 acres to mountain biking. In the winter, you can also go snowmobiling there. Other popular winter activities you may enjoy in Codorus include sledding, skiing, and ice skating.

If you’re an avid wildlife watcher, look out for muskrats and herons as you pass the wetlands and bluebirds and white-tailed deer often spotted in the fields.

Popular game species during hunting season include deer, pheasant, and rabbit. Hunters must comply with the rules and regulations of the Pennsylvania State Game Commission.

If disc golfing is more your thing, the 54-hole course at Codorus should be on your list of things to do in York County, PA.

Stay the Night

Camping has more than one definition in Codorus State Park. There are about 190 seasonal campsites for tents and recreational vehicles. Many campsites feature electric hookups, showers, flush toilets, and more.

Elevate your camping experience and stay at one of the park's seasonal cottages with electricity. The park also offers yurts featuring a cooking stove, refrigerator, and electricity. The Black Rock Lodge is available year-round, features hotel-style amenities, and can accommodate large parties.

If camping isn’t quite your thing, nearby Hanover offers a variety of hotel and restaurant options to rest and refresh after a long day of exploring the great outdoors.
