Love nature, but can’t decide which outdoor activity to explore when you visit York County, PA? Well, you’re in luck. You can do them all at Codorus State Park. The perfect spot for hiking, biking, camping, boating, picnicking and more, Codorus State Park has something for everyone. Here’s what you can expect when visiting the southern York County attraction.
Hiking and Biking Trails
For a more leisurely visit to the park, check out the La-Ho Trail. The path spans 1.5 miles and features some historical treasures, like the remains of a tombstone structure from the early 18th century. If you’re an animal lover, you’ll definitely spot some furry friends while exploring. The trail is known to attract ducks, herons, osprey, and bald eagles. Codorus is also pet-friendly, so your own furry friend is welcome to tag along on your journey. Just be sure to leave your nice shoes at home; this hike may get muddy.
If you’re up for a challenge, don’t shy away from hopping on the Mary Ann Furnace Trail to experience one of the best-known Codorus State Park trails. You’ll weave through beautiful forests before having the option to either hike the shoreline of Lake Marburg, the Park’s main attraction, or trek up a hilltop. If you choose to catch a scenic view of the lake, be sure to pack your snacks and head over to one of the designated picnic areas for a bite. Not sure which route will suit you best? More of a biker than a hiker? No problem. The northern shore of the park has a gorgeous 195-acre mountain biking area, which spans 6.5 miles of trails. The paths are hilly and lush, and you can even plan your route to get to Hanover. Here, there’s plenty of time to relax and enjoy the town’s history and cuisines. While you’re there, you’ll want to check out the markets for a bite. If you aren’t too tired from all the biking, there are popular walking tours available in Hanover.
Seasonal Annual Events
Aside from the daily hiking, biking, and picnicking the outdoor venue offers, there are many other exciting things to do at Codorus State Park. Some include fun seasonal and annual events you won’t want to miss. The park runs a Halloween trail and Winterfest event each year. If you’re looking to visit York when it’s warm, Codorus State Park events are great in the spring, centered around the curiosity of nature and fun for all ages. They also host an annual summer concert series for music lovers to enjoy.
Camping and Picnicking
Staying the night at Codorus? Why not sleep under the stars? The park has 190 campsites for tents and vehicles. Codorus State Park camping will give you access to electricity, showers and flush toilets via cottage amenities. If you’re more of a glamper, yurts are also available, which feature stoves and refrigerators. Staying with a large party? Go for the Black Rock Lodge option, which offers a hotel-style camping experience.
