Holtwood Whitewater Park
Catch the thrill of the Susquehanna at Holtwood Whitewater Park, where paddlers tackle roaring rapids and waves beneath the dam.
Looking for an adventure with a little adrenaline? Head to Holtwood Whitewater Park in Airville, where the Susquehanna River becomes a playground for skilled paddlers beneath the towering Holtwood Hydroelectric Dam.
Open seasonally for playboating and freestyle kayaking, the park features three manmade waves, each offering a different challenge. At the top, a large, fast-moving wave delivers speed and power. In the middle, a powerful breaking wave keeps paddlers on their toes, while a slower, smoother wave at the bottom offers a more relaxed ride. When the dam’s gates open during scheduled releases, these waves come alive, creating an exciting whitewater experience for experienced paddlers.
You don’t have to get in the water to enjoy the action. Spectator areas provide a front-row view as kayakers tackle the rapids, catch waves and show off their freestyle skills. For an extra dose of excitement, visit during the annual Holtwood Rodeo, held the third weekend in October, when talented paddlers gather to put their skills on display.
Set along the Susquehanna River, the park offers a unique way to experience one of Pennsylvania’s most iconic waterways. Whether you’re an experienced kayaker ready to test your skills or simply looking for a place to watch the action, Holtwood Whitewater Park delivers a memorable riverside adventure.
Check the schedule for upcoming water releases, then grab your gear—or find a spot along the riverbank—and watch the Susquehanna come alive.
