St. Patrick's Day Parade
Annual community celebration of the Patron Saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick.
For more than four decades, York County has celebrated all things Irish with the York Saint Patrick’s Day Parade along Market Street in historic Downtown York.
This festive and fun annual tradition is held each year on the Saturday before Saint Patrick’s Day, or on the actual holiday if March 17 falls on a Saturday.
The parade lineup features dazzling floats, creatively decorated vehicles, antique vehicles, bagpipe bands, school marching bands, Irish dance groups, costumed characters, family groups, non-profit organizations, media personalities, and much more. Some years, the parade has also included a Philadelphia Mummers group, complete with spectacular costumes.
You’ll want to head downtown early and snag a good spot along Market Street and then enjoy pre-parade entertainment and merchant specials in several locations throughout the area. After the parade, bagpipers fan out to downtown shops and eateries to keep the music flowing well into the evening.
Explore York has been a proud participant in this beloved community tradition for several years and our team always has a great time handing out giveaways along the parade route, which starts at Penn Market and disbands just east of Martin Library.
The parade is broadcast live on White Rose Community Television and is also shared on Facebook for your viewing pleasure. It’s also available on YouTube so that parade participants can watch the parade at a later time.
The York Saint Patrick’s Day Parade is organized by a small but mighty group of volunteers. They are always looking for additional volunteers to keep this beloved annual tradition happening.
Visit the parade website for registration information, volunteer opportunities, and fundraisers such as the annual Halfway to Saint Patrick’s Day Parade fundraiser. Mark your calendars, grab an Irish sweater, and plan to attend the parade with friends and family, and make a day of it in Downtown York.
