Small Business Saturday is observed each year on the Saturday following Thanksgiving as a way to encourage everyone to support small businesses that are so important to our communities. The Explore York team wanted to share some of our favorite places to shop small in York County.

Have a book lover on your list?

For the book lovers, head to downtown York City. Bound Books is a charming shop with a small café where you can enjoy a hot beverage and delicious baked goods after browsing the latest new releases. The York Emporium Used Book Store, located just a few blocks away, is jam packed with more than 500,00 used books.

New York Wire Works is a unique stop with many different vendors to support. You’ll find art, jewelry, clothing, home goods, stationery, and the list goes on. You won’t leave the building empty handed (we speak from experience!).

The Watchmaker’s Daughter has an awesome collection of locally made, handmade, and vintage jewelry pieces. This third-generation jeweler is affordable and now offers permanent jewelry.

You’ll find beautiful stained glass creations in all shapes, sizes, themes, and colors at Candi J. Duda Stained Glass & Garden Art. Or, gift someone a class to create their own unique glass masterpiece.

For the Market goers

Central Market House has several options for a great breakfast or lunch to sustain you on a busy day of shopping. When you have limited time but need different items, it's a one-stop shop! If you have four-legged friends waiting at home, be sure to check out Boys’ Barking Bakery for a selection of all-natural dog treats. Looking for York County souvenirs for stocking stuffers? Check out Inspired Imagez.

The Markets at Shrewsbury has a wide variety of seasonal gifts. You’ll also find an assortment of candy, meat and cheese, baked goods, produce, and jar goods for all your holiday party needs. While you’re there, stop by Old Republic Distillery and sample some York-made spirits.

The Markets of Hanover is a year-round indoor farmers market and food court featuring local, independently owned shops and unique restaurants and an onsite brewery and pub. Merchants feature handcrafted items, clothing, jewelry, unique gifts, home decor, and more. Enjoy everything from traditional to international eateries all in one convenient location.

Gifts galore

Collage Shop has a nice collection of items you can't find many other places, and it’s all of good quality. Collage recently celebrated 40 years in business, so they know what they’re doing.

Oxford Hall Celtic Shop & Tea Cafe in New Cumberland has an extensive variety of imported Irish and Celtic goods and is the perfect place to pick up gifts and clothing. Treat yourself after shopping to a pot of hot tea in their cozy café and be sure to check the refrigerated case for treats to take home. When you can’t get to Ireland or Scotland for your favorite items, Oxford Hall Celtic Shop is the answer.

Vintage enthusiast?

Dover Antique Mall has more fun finds than you’d expect and the vintage and antique items hold so much character. It’s interesting to see things from the past that can tell such amazing stories.

Damon and Dora’s Vintage Clothing and Antiques is a small vintage shop based in Etters. The owners pride themselves on quality and affordability; if they wouldn’t wear it, they wouldn’t expect you to either.

Fuel up

Our staff loves JoeStrEat Café in Dover. It’s an adorable place to grab a quick bite and SO good. Top menu picks are avocado toast for breakfast or chicken salad croissant for lunch. Yum!

New Freedom Roasting Company has coffee and easy grab-and-go food items to enjoy after a busy day of shopping. The shrimp salad is highly recommended, as are the jars of Locally Seasoned chutney that are made right here in York County.

Tag us @ExploreYorkPA on social media if you shop at any of these locations on Small Business Saturday and you could win an Explore York canvas tote bag for your future shopping trips.
