THE REDUCTIVE METHOD: PAINTING WITH WATERMIXABLE OILS with Jim Starr

Overview

This 8-Week Class will cover the benefits of painting using the reductive method and painting with Water-Soluble oils. Students will follow Jim’s demos by painting on a provided gesso-coated hardboard. We will apply paint with brushes and palette knives and remove it with squeegees, paper towels, and Q-Tips. This method is fun and helps you quickly define your tonal values. Switching from harsh solvents to water when mixing oil paints is a game-changer! Instruction over this 8-week Class covers: Materials and Supplies, Reductive Painting techniques, Glazing, Design/Composition, Tonalism, Preliminary Sketching, Types of Edges & Transitions. Students will need to purchase the materials listed in the Supply List below for the class. Links are provided for ordering Artist Supplies. $15 supply fee is due to the instructor on the first day of class. Supply List • A couple of synthetic bright brushes, sizes 8,14, 18.
