York County Solid Waste Authority

2700 Blackbridge Rd, York, PA 17406

The York County Resource Recovery Center (RRC) is a waste-to-energy facility that uses garbage as fuel to produce steam to power a turbine to generate electricity. The RRC is designated under PA legislation as a source of "green power." Visitors will be given an overview of the process of waste-to-energy followed by a walking tour of the facility, which includes the Tipping Floor, the Turbine-Generator Room and a mock Control Room. Pencils made from recycled denim blue jeans, bookmarks that contain wildflower seeds for you to plant, carabiner keychains, lightbulb stress balls, lunch bag with Buster the Combuster Dragon (our mascot) on it, a baseball hat and other goodies are all yours when you take a tour and learn how we turn garbage into power! The goodies are electrifying! A tour will be offered on Thursday, June 17, at 10 a.m. Please call 717-845-1066 and ask for Ruthanne to schedule your tour. Maximum 25 participants.
