Celebrate Juneteenth in York County
Join us as we honor the end of slavery in the United States and celebrate Black culture, resilience, and excellence right here in York County.
Observed on June 19, Juneteenth celebrates the day in 1865 that the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas learned of their freedom. This came more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. In York County, this is a time to reflect on our local history as well-- from the county's ties to the Underground Railroad to the great Black leaders and entrepreneurs who help shape our region today. We celebrate the progress that was already made, as well as acknowledge the work that still lies ahead.
