Overview

Get outdoors this winter at the Zimmerman Center for Heritage for some Winter River Ranger Hours! These programs will explore river themes for children ages 5 and up.

Some sessions will be joined by a National Park Service Ranger, and participants can collect limited edition Chesapeake Trail trading cards!

River Ranger Hours will be held on Saturdays throughout the winter 11 a.m. to 12 noon:

  • January 8: Ice Jams along the Susquehanna
  • January 22: Native Winter
  • February 12: Winter Animals Adaptations
  • February 26: Maple Sugaring
  • March 12: National Heritage Area Birthday
  • March 26: Wind

Meet at the brand new outdoor education space at the trailhead of the Native Lands Trail from the parking lot. Most sessions will have a campfire for warmth, but dress to explore and learn outdoors!

Due to the smaller size of the Zimmerman Center and available parking, registration is required. Cost is $3 per child.

Program may be canceled in the event of snow or poor weather conditions. Refunds will be provided.
