Safety Town is designed to help children recognize hazardous situations and react to them. Each session includes two weeks of instruction and fun for 3-7 year-old children, determined by their age on June 19, 2023. Safety town is coordinated by a Director of Education, who is a certified teacher, and is assisted by other certified teachers, committed assistants, and dedicated volunteers. A registered nurse is also on site. Children have "hands-on" learning while riding through the Safety Town streets along with singing safety songs, playing safe games, coloring, and participating in other activities all designed around the safety message of the day.
Program activities include:
- Live presentations provided by visits from fire, rescue, and police departments
- Safe school bus basics
- Use of 911
- Drug abuse prevention
- Poison prevention
- Personal health practices
- Pool, playground and animal safety
- Pedestrian and bike safety
- BrainMinders presentations
Classes are Monday through Thursday -- no class on Fridays.
