York County, PA, has a brand new museum where visitors can explore 300 years of American history, from York’s Revolutionary roots and industrial achievements to the history makers of today.

The York County History Center Museum is located in a 19th century former steam-generating plant that has been converted into a 15,000-square-foot state-of-the-art experience for 21st century museum-goers. It’s located in the heart of historic Downtown York City, one block away from the York County History Center’s Colonial Complex, where the buildings date back to the 1700s. This campus provides outdoor programming and exhibit space which has greatly expanded the historical interpretation of York County.

From its Revolutionary War roots, where York served as a temporary capital of the United States, to its significant industrial achievements, the York County History Center offers a comprehensive look at the events and people that have shaped both York County and the nation. Take in everything from a restored Conestoga wagon and Revolutionary War-era documents to the agricultural and manufacturing history that has defined York County.

Peek into the past with interactive touchscreens that display more than 1,000 photographs and nine hands-on activities that delve into the backstories of important historical artifacts.

The new Library and Archives also offers opportunities for visitors to research genealogy, family history, local lore, and military history. Students looking to supplement their classroom work with hands-on experiences will find plenty to see, touch, and learn at this immersive museum complex.
