The best part of the holidays is gathering with friends and family -- often over great food. For a taste of York County at your holiday table this year, try this sweet potato pie recipe from the bakery at Brown's Orchards & Farm Market.


9" unbaked pie crust
1/4 cup flour
1-1/2 cups sugar
3 medium sweet potatoes (1-1/2 cups) cooked & mashed
2 eggs
¼ cup light corn syrup
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
6 oz evaporated milk
1/4 cup melted margarine


To prepare sweet potatoes - Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the sweet potatoes and reduce the heat to medium. Cook until the sweet potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork, about 30 minutes. Drain and run under cold water until cool enough to handle. Peel the sweet potatoes and place in a medium bowl. Mash with an electric mixer on medium speed until very smooth.

Preheat oven to 350 F.
Combine all filling ingredients and beat at medium speed until well mixed.
Pour filling into crust.
Bake 50-60 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
Cool completely. Garnish with whipped cream, if desired. Store refrigerated.
