YORK, PA- York County has recorded a banner 2015 summer travel season based on available figures showing several strong monthly increases in hotel room demand.

According to recent statistics, demand in York County was up by 10.2 percent in May, 16.6 percent in June and 7.3 percent in July. In addition, August continued the upward trend with an increase of 4.7 percent.

In May, York County hosted the American Truck Historical Society National Convention and Truck Show as well as the USA Team Handball Open Championships at the York Expo Center among drivers of demand in the month this year. Both events were new to York County, and the latter will return in 2016.

Early in June, the perennial National Street Rod Association Street Rod Nationals East Plus was followed closely by the USA Wrestling Cadet National Duals, which will return for two more years through 2017. Meanwhile, leisure visitor events held each year such as the Made In America Tours Event, which is managed by the York County Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Penn-Mar Irish Festival occurred later in the month.

Both June and July saw significant Amateur Softball Association events in York County, and July ended with the start of this summer's Keystone State Games Festival of Sports, Presented By York College of Pennsylvania, which will return through 2017.

"These figures are the result of our community working together and maximizing the value of our destination," said Anne Druck, President of the York County Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Overnight visitors spend significantly more than those here for just one day and many business sectors benefit from multi-day travelers."
