York County Welcomes the Military Vehicle Preservation Association

Members of Media Invited for Behind-the-Scenes Preview

York, PA — York County is honored to welcome the largest military vehicle group, the Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA), to the area August 8-10 at the York Expo Center for their annual international convention. The first day of the event is reserved for members only, while Friday and Saturday are open to the public. Tickets are $8 for individuals and $20 for families when purchased in advance at www.MVPA.org/York. Day-of tickets are $15 per person. Event organizers would like to invite members of the local media out on Thursday, August 8, for a behind-the-scenes look, including a flame thrower demonstration.

MVPA includes roughly 8,000 members and nearly 100 affiliate groups in the United States and around the world, with one common goal: To promote, preserve, restore, share, and enjoy historic military transport with other enthusiasts and the general public. This event is estimated to bring in nearly $950,000 in economic benefits for the York area thanks to over 1000 participants and spectators arriving from outside the county.

This year, over 200 historic military vehicles spanning from WWI to modern times will be on display. Vehicles will be judged with prizes awarded for Best Overall Display, Best Vehicle Display, and the Judges’ Choice for a single-vehicle. The vehicles are all privately-owned and range from trail-ride quality to better-than-factory new. In addition to the judging, the convention also will include vehicle demonstrations, living history presentations, lectures and seminars, slow races, vendors, and much more.

Starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday the 10th, a convoy of vehicles will pass through the Grandstand at York Fair before starting their journey to San Francisco, CA. The trip will take a little over a month, with the convoy arriving in San Francisco on September 14, and is the second MVPA convoy to commemorate the Lincoln Highway, built by the US Army in 1909.
