Talk about a community alive with activity....

Beginning this weekend, police, fire, EMS and other first responders from all over North America will be converging on York County for the 2014 York Can-Am Police-Fire Games scheduled for July 13-20. Join us for the Opening Ceremonies from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the York Expo Center's Grandstand. Tickets are $5, while admission is free for children 12 years old and younger.

Hundreds of athletes will be competing in 50 events at venues sprinkled throughout York County, as the Games makes its first-ever appearance on the USA's East Coast.

In addition to traditional athletic competitions such as swimming, softball, golf and cycling, the Games also includes industry-specific events such as toughest firefighter alive (TFA) and the EMS skills competition.

New to the Games for 2014 is an Olympic lifting event which will take place at York Barbell Company, home of the Weightlifting Hall of Fame.

Watching the Games is free to the public and all proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish® of Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The Games was landed by Sport York, a brand created by the York County Convention & Visitors Bureau. By positioning York as "Pennsylvania's Premier Sports Destination," Sport York continues to attract gems like the Can-Am Police-Fire Games and generate significant tourist expenditures, including $18 million in 2013 alone.

It's that kind of performance that keeps York County ahead of the game.

The York County Convention & Visitors Bureau is constantly investigating all opportunities to promote York County as a great place to visit and explore. It's a purpose that makes winners of every single one of us.
