YORK, PA-The York County Convention & Visitors Bureau welcomes the start of the American Collegiate Hockey Association's Women's Championships on Wednesday at the York Ice Arena.

Sixteen women's collegiate ice hockey teams from across the United States will compete through Sunday for either the Division 1 or Division 2 national championship. The five days of competitions are expected to generate more than $1 million in total economic benefits for our community. This is the first time York County has hosted the ACHA championships.

"In a community that can boast outstanding indoor facilities such as the Utz Arena at the York Expo Center and the Graham Aquatic Center, the York Ice Arena is yet another important arrow in the quiver of Sport York to attract impactful tournaments to York County at all times of the year," said Laura Gurreri, the York County CVB's Director of Sales who leads Sport York efforts.

Pool play begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday, when the University of Michigan takes on Adrian College in a Division 1 matchup. Pool play continues in both divisions through the end of the day on Friday, including evening matchups. Tickets to the competitions are available to the general public.

Two games apiece in each division on Saturday will determine who plays in the national championship matchups on Sunday.

"Sports are serious business for the York County economy," said Anne Druck, President of the York County Convention & Visitors Bureau. "But at the same time, they create unique opportunities for young people in our local community to see top-tier youth and collegiate competitors performing at the highest levels of their respective sports. You can't put a dollar value on what this type of exposure can mean to aspiring athletes."
