Postmark collectors and postal historians gather this week in York, PA, for 62nd annual convention

York, PA – Postmark collectors and postal historians gather this week, August 8-10, in York, Pennsylvania, for the 62nd annual convention of the Post Mark Collectors Club (PMCC).

This club is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to collecting and preserving the history and legacy of America’s many current and former post offices. The convention will feature a special postal station of the York post office on each day of the convention.

The annual convention will be held at the Four Points Sheraton by York at Route 30 & Interstate 83 on Toronita Street.

Attendees will have the opportunity to browse through thousands of mostly older postmarks. Members who register to attend can take as many as they wish complimentary, and non-members who are interested in checking things out are welcome to come and browse. There will also be items from the PMCC Museum for sale, such as covers from defunct post offices, state postal directories, books, and a calendar of post office photos.

During the event, meetings will include discussions about postmarks and post offices, various committees, and the general membership meeting. The convention will conclude with a group photo, banquet dinner, and a lively auction of postal and related philatelic items.

In addition, the PMCC is offering for sale a set of three commemorative covers that showcase iconic sites in York County. The covers feature York’s 1888 Central Market; the Colonial Courthouse, where the Second Continental Congress met to draft and ratify the Articles of Confederation from 1777-1778; and the Northern Central Railway of York in New Freedom-- a key transportation route during the Civil War. The covers will be postmarked with a special pictorial cancellation for the event. Interested collectors can purchase the set for $6.50 onsite at the convention or $7.25 postpaid.

"This event celebrates the rich history and fascinating stories behind postmarks. We're honored to host this memorable gathering and share York County's charm and hospitality with these collectors and enthusiasts. On behalf of the Explore York staff, our members, and the local community, we hope your 62nd annual convention is inspiring to all, " said Laura Wagner, Explore York President.

Convention hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday (Aug. 8-9), and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday (Aug. 10).
