YCCVB’s Gurreri Named to National Leadership Role for Sports Tourism Industry
YORK, PA - The National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) has named the York County Convention & Visitors Bureau's Laura Gurreri to its board of directors, giving her a leadership role with the country's leading sports destination association.
As Director of Sales for the York County CVB, Gurreri leads the YCCVB's Sport York program that already brings millions of dollars of economic benefits to the local community every year, and she said York County is poised for further growth with her recent appointment.
"This appointment enhances York County's reputation as a stellar sports destination and puts us on a national stage with locales such as Buffalo, Detroit and Kansas City," Gurreri said. "Having a seat at the leadership table will give York County an opportunity to shape the industry in ways that will make smaller destinations even more competitive and drive more events to York County and similar communities."
The board appointment came during the NASC's 25th Annual Symposium, held this year in Sacramento, California. Gurreri's board term expires in 2020.
Gurreri recently celebrated her 15-year anniversary with the York County CVB and has served as Director of Sales since 2006. She oversees a sales team that advances the sports market, as well as the group tour, and meetings and conventions programs. Gurreri also serves as Treasurer for PA Sports, a statewide sports initiative.
Gurreri's appointment brings national exposure for Sport York, which has enjoye
d a recent boom in success. The York County CVB estimates that sporting events will drive more than $26 million of economic benefits into the local community this year.
Under Gurreri's leadership, Sport York has attracted lucrative events such as the Martin Luther King Jr. Kickoff Classic Volleyball Tournament, the Mid-Atlantic Power League Volleyball Tournament and the Middle Atlantic Swimming Junior Olympics.
The impressive list also includes the 2014 Can-Am Police-Fire Games, as well as the Keystone State Games, which will return for the third consecutive year this summer.
Gurreri is a York County native who started her career at the YCCVB as an intern. In 2009, she earned the certification of Certified Sports Event Executive from NASC.
"The YCCVB does not own inventory equipment or real estate. Our greatest asset to compete for lucrative visitor spending is our professional
staff. Laura is a terrific example of the dedicated, professional and hard-working team at the YCCVB that has helped us to be just one of seven CVBs in Pennsylvania to have earned Accreditation from the Destination Marketing Association International," said Anne Druck, YCCVB President.
