Hanover Junction Train Station Celebrates
Lincoln's 200th Birthday

Thursday, February 12, 2009

Hanover Junction Train Station
York County Heritage Rail Trail

The York County Friends of the Heritage Rail Trail Corridor will honor Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday at Hanover Junction Train Station along the Heritage Rail Trail County Park. A dedication will be held at 1:30 p.m. for the newly installed Lincoln bust in Hanover Junction’s garden. The ceremony will include the reading of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. Join in the celebration with birthday cake and refreshments. The museum is open to the public from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2009.

Abraham Lincoln visited Hanover Junction on November 18 and 19, 1863 on his way to and from giving his famous Gettysburg Address at the dedication of the Soldier’s Cemetery in Gettysburg, PA. Lincoln’s visit to Hanover Junction is recorded in his personal diary. A large patriotic crowd gathered at Hanover Junction on April 21, 1865, to see President Lincoln’s funeral train pass through.

Admission to the museum is free, although donations are accepted.  For more information, call the York County Parks at (717) 840-7440 or visit www.yorkcountyparks.org.
