On December 21, 1840, an ad in the York Gazette read: “For the amusement of the ladies and gentlemen of York, and its vicinity, William C Goodridge will exhibit at his residence 123 East Philadelphia Street, a Christmas Tree.” So, once again, history will be repeating itself. Mr. Goodridge’s home, now under the management of the Crispus Attucks Association, is holding its second annual open house tour celebrating Goodridge’s entrepreneurial skills and his involvement in the Underground Railroad. His involvement helped many of the enslaved find freedom to the North and as such, we will be displaying Christmas trees with various freedom-related themes decorated by our community members and staff. Costumed docents will also be present to help bring Goodridge’s amazing story to life! The public is invited for viewing.
